Carnival-Style Sight Word Fish Bowl Game with Candy Fish

Though I feel bad about throwing ping pong balls at goldfish as a child, I do have some fond childhood memories of the famous carnival fish bowl games. You know the ones-- ping pong balls are tossed into a group of bowls, and if they land inside a bowl, the player wins the goldfish.

I thought, why not do this with candy fish? I taped sight words and this week's word family words onto plastic cups and had students toss the ping pong ball into the cup. If the ball landed in a cup, they would read the word on the cup and eat the fish if read correctly.

This could also be done with Goldfish Crackers for a healthier version, or fish erasers for a food-free alternative.

What are some fun things you do for word work? Please share in the comments below!
